What a chaotic household!
Daphne tries to bring some semblance of order to the daily proceedings but is in a constant battle to succeed. Her husband Jonathan is not the most organised individual. On top of that, Daphne has the twins to look after. Daphne says she needs a pair of eyes in the back of her head to see what they will be up to next
The Reverend Goodfellow has a long history with Feltbury Green. Living in Feltbury Town as a youngster, his parents always attended St Cuthbert's Church for the Sunday service. They said the short journey was worth it as the church is so special.
Jonathan and Daphne met each other at a retreat in Yorkshire and were delighted to move to Feltbury Green when the parish position became available. They live in the Rectory right beside St Curthbert's, so there should be no excuse for being late for services, although Jonathan frequently is!
Matthew and his friends, Denis Meadowcroft and George Christie call themselves the Pals and spend much of their time thinking up ways to make life in Feltbury Green more interesting. Anne has become firm friends with Deborah Meadowcroft - and they spend much of their time countering the activities of their brothers!
Mr & Mrs Stephen Laplume
Stephen and Gillian moved to Feltbury Green recently, buying the large house Grayshot on the outskirts of the village. They are seen as the "glamorous" couple by the older locals, with their high profile jobs and careers
With Stephen working in Feltingbridge, Gillian was getting a little restless and bored. Imagine her delight when she discovered her old friend Tina Draper lived literally just over the river! They immediately reconnected and decided to start up a couture dress boutique to bring some fashion to both Feltbury Green and Feltbury. With ever increasing numbers moving out of London to live in the country, they think their boutique will do well, providing the lastest cocktail and evening dresses to this new set. The locals however remain a little sceptical
Stephen is working hard on building his publishing business in Feltingbridge. He has recently signed a number of new authors and hopes their books will be successful and become best sellers. With the Hon Nancy Feltbury living close by, he is desperate to sign her to his publishing house. He is also keen to start a family as soon as possible
Farmer Giles and Mrs Winnie Meadowcroft
The Meadowcroft family has been farming in Feltbury Green for as long as anybody can remember. Parish marriage and death records show the Meadowcroft name appearing as far back as the Middle Ages. Giles and Winnie expanded the acreage of Feltbury farm by buying their neighbours' land when it was offered to them
With their son Adam and his wife Ava working Feltbury Farm alongside Giles and Winnie, the future looks assured for the next generation of Meadowcrofts

The next two generations of the Meadowcroft family. Everyone plays an active part in helping around the farm, with some being a little more useful than others!
Adam fell for Ava when she came to work on the farm as a Land Girl during the war. Ava has her work cut out bringing up her four children, along with a host of other farm chores she has to get through. This leads her to be late on the odd occasion!
Their four children are all very different in character. David is serious and down to earth, Deborah likes to be in charge, Denis is always up to no good with the Pals gang and Diana is quiet and dreamy
Mr & Mrs William Howard
Another villager who grew up in Feltbury, William moved to Feltbury Green when Castle View came up for sale. Working for Feltbury Bank he was able to secure a favourable mortgage to buy their house. William has now become the branch manager having started off as a humble cashier. He is very neat, orderly and precise, perfect for looking after other people's money
His wife Violet is such a gossip. She spends her day meeting other villagers and swapping the latest news and stories. She cannot be trusted to keep any secrets. She is perfect for William as she loves keeping a clean and tidy house. Castle View is pristine with beautiful borders and manicured lawns
William and Violet are devoted to Feltbury Green and are always looking to maintain standards within the village. Williams pet hate is litter, so organises regular litter picking parties to ensure a neat and tidy Feltbury Green
Mr Edward Young
Film Director
An internationally known film director, Edward has directed a number of blockbuster films. He has travelled the world, and met his glamorous wife whilst filming in Hong Kong. He welcomes his days off in Feltbury Green, taking the opportunity to relax and restore his energies for the next film assignment or trip to Los Angeles to pick up an Oscar!
Susan Claybourne
Stable Hand
Susan loves horses. She is an accomplished rider, having won a number of local and national horse jumping events. She hopes one day to run her own stables. Despite all the amorous attention she receives, her love is just for her horses which she keeps at the stables at Fell View Farm
Andrew Bond
General Hand at Feltbury Castle
Andrew plays trumpet with the church band alongside Peter Venables . He admires Susan Claybourne, but is too shy to ask her out on a date. He might pluck up courage a bit more quickly if he knew Peter also fancies her!
Andrew is keen to build up his gardening skills and knowledge. He has grand plans for the walled garden at Feltbury Castle. However, his ideas often clash with the thoughts of Lord Feltbury who meddles incessantly
Miss Ella Emberton
Feltbury Green Librarian
Ella is a confirmed spinster. She served with the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) during the Second World War. She flew most types of planes during her service time, delivering them to their operational airfields. After all that excitement, she relishes the quiet life of Feltbury Green and managing the library. She knows where all the classic novels can be found on the book shelves
Miss Agnes Fothergill
Head Mistress
Miss Fothergill started as a teacher at Feltbury Green school during the First World War. She had to cope with great sorrow during the war when her fiancé was killed in action at the Somme. With characteristic fortitude, she threw herself into her work and decided to dedicate her life to teaching. By the start of the next war, Agnes had many years of teaching under her belt, and when Feltury Green's headmaster was called up into the army, she was the obvious choice for temporary headmistress. When the headmaster decided to move away after the war, Miss Fothergill's appointment was made permanent. She loves her job and adores teaching the children, even if sometimes they can be slightly trying! It's at times like these that Agnes uses her whistle to bring some order to the chaos, a practice which has earned her the nickname of Shrillgill by the chldren.
Miss Prunella Honeybourne
Small holding and stables owner
Prue's childhood growing up on her family's farm in Feltbury Green cemented her love of animals. Prue's older sister, Winnie is married to Giles Meadowcroft, and the majority of the old Honeybourne family farm has now been incorporated into Feltbury Farm. However, a small portion of the Honeybourne acreage was retained by Prue and is now called Fell View. Prue is devoted to all things natural and keeps to a strict vegetarian regime at Fell View. She is suspicious of all new medicines and often argues with her brother Kit, who is the local vet. She keeps an array of animals at Fell View, and the hens and Nelly the goat provide her with all the eggs and milk she needs. Having acquired an ever growing stable of ponies, Prue has started giving riding lessons to the local children. She loves the outside life, looking after her animals and growing her vegetables. Her cat Socks keeps her company both in the fields and in front of the fire during the long winter nights
Mrs Elsie Beetlewick
Surgery Nurse
Elsie divides her time between looking after her husband, her children and helping to make sure the surgery runs smoothly. She is very popular in the village as she always lends an ear to the patients' worries. and is more approachable than her husband! Elsie's years of nursing experience before she met Alfred are indispensable to the surgery. She and Alfred are both accomplished violinists and play for Feltbury Green church, as well as the local Feltbury orchestra
Dr Alfred Beetlewick
Doctor
Alfred studied medicine at Edinburgh University. Helping sick children was always his dream. After his evacuation from Dunkirk and the loss of his foot due to an infection, he took up a position in the children's ward at Charing Cross Hospital in London. It was here that he met Elsie, a nurse working on his ward and they married within a few months. Looking for a quieter life, they moved to Feltbury Green to bring up their family, working alongside the irascible Dr Foster
Mr Albert Mollet
Village Road Sweeper, Handyman and Part Time Chauffeur
Where would Feltbury Castle be without Albert? "Knee high in leaves that's where!" as he likes to say. But he always adds, "It do keep me fit and active, so I'm not complaining." The highlight of Albert's day is meeting his friends at the Feltbury Arms pub for a swift pint before going home for his tea after a hard day's sweeping or driving for Lord & Lady Feltbury
Mrs Milly Mollet
Cook at Feltbury Castle
Never out of her apron, Milly is head cook at Feltbury Castle cooking endless dinner parties and luncheons for Lord and Lady Feltbury. Her speciality is the three birds in one roast, a particular favourite for his Lordship who loves all game!
Hon Nancy Feltbury
Wife to Peregrine Feltbury and Novelist
The Honourable Nancy Feltbury is a very successful author. Her novels sell across the world and pay for the upkeep of Feltbury Park and a very extravagant lifestyle. Nancy is the daughter of Giles and Winnie Meadowcroft and sister to Adam. She went to school in Feltbury Green and loved writing, so pursued a career as a novelist. Her romantic novels are loved globally and sell by the thousands. She met Peregrine at regular Feltbury Green social events as they were growing up and their own romance eventually blossomed, leading to an engagement and marriage within a year
June Wittaker
Schoolgirl
June is the niece of Lord and Lady Feltbury. Her parents thought the country air would do June the world of good whilst she is convalescing from TB. Since coming to Feltbury Green from London, June has become the best of friends with Sara Draper
Col & Mrs Harry Wentworth
Commissioned before the First World War into the Royal Artillery, Col Wentworth saw action across all the major battles in France including the Somme and Passchendaele. He served with distinction and was awarded the MC for his gallantry defending his gun emplacement whilst under sustained attack by the Germans. During the Second World War he worked closely with Sir Winston Churchill, helping set up the Home Guard. Post war, he was asked to bring his vast experience and knowledge to bear when the Ministry of Defence was formed and created
Isobel was an ambulance driver in France during the First War and met Harry after he sustained wounds during the Battle of Passchendaele. She drove the ambulance which ferried him away from the dressing station at the front line and on to the casualty clearing station, where he was successfully operated on. One of the few to survive his operation, Harry was hailed as a marvel by Isobel who visited him whenever she could. They were married in France as soon as Harry was fit enough to stand up. Within a year their son Laurence was born.
Having travelled the world, the Wentworths were both pleased to find a delightful thatched cottage in Feltbury Green in which to settle down. They bought Number 4 Castle Cottages with a garden sweeping down to the river. They spend hours in their garden and are keen competitors at the annual village fete, competing in the flower catagory and frequently beating their best friends but arch rivals the Howards to first prize!
Mrs Tina Draper
Dress designer & maker
Tina met Gillian Laplume whilst working in the fashion industry. A highly skilled and outstanding dress designer and maker, she made a number of designer outfits modelled by Gillian in London, Paris and New York. She is now partnering with Gillian in Feltbury as they set up their new fashion boutique called Gina's
Sara Draper
School Girl
Now twelve years old, Sara has recently started at the local Feltbury grammer school. She helps her mother out by running errands whenever she can, whilst also coping with an ever increasing mountain of homework. She has recently become best friends with Lord and Lady Feltbury's niece June Wittaker
The Christie Family
Feltbury Green has been the home of the Christie family for many generations. The Christies traditionally worked the land as labourers. That is how Alan and Gloria met. She came to Feltbury Green as a Land Girl during the second world war and fell for both Alan and the village
When old Mrs Christie, who ran the village shop, died, they took over the business. They have now taken on the post office which Alan runs whilst Gloria concentrates on the shop. The Christies are very hard working and the long opening hours make them popular with the villagers who regularly need to purchase a last minute item to help make dinner
Their family continues to grow with baby Brian joining little Marilyn and her big brother George. Gloria is keen to have a large family which she calls her brood
Mr Jack Venables
Solicitor - Twin Brother to Joseph Venables
Jack's son and his wife were killed during the blitz on London during the Second World War. Peter Venables, their son, had been evacuated to Feltbury Green to live with his grandfather. Jack has brought up Peter after his parents' death. He is very proud of Peter achieving an English first from Oxford and has persuaded him to join his firm of solicitors
Mr Joseph Venables
Solicitor - Twin Brother to Jack Venables
Joseph is a superb solicitor, but does have a few eccentricities! You can never be sure what direction, or indeed where your conversation with him might end up. Everybody says he is "a bob or two short of a ten shilling note!" but love him for it nonetheless
Peter Venables
Trainee Solicitor & Espiring Writer
Grandson of Jack Venables, Jack has just graduated from Oxford University, where he read English and gained a first. He wants to be a writer, but has been persuaded by his grandfather to train as a solicitor. An active member of the church band, he plays the trumpet. He also has a crush on Susan Claybourne and is trying to build up the courage to ask her out!
